The Customer

A multi-location southern US bank with 100+ employees that serves personal, business, and ministry clients.

Business Challenges

  • Aging Mitel platform: A legacy Mitel PBX, tied to a Ktrix IVR and SIP trunking for phone banking, was near end of life with limited scalability across the bank’s locations
  • Lean IT resources: A small IT team needed a system simple to administer, with no telephony hardware to maintain and no specialized PBX expertise
  • Continuity and compliance pressure: With no tolerance for downtime, the bank had to keep its phone-banking IVR running while meeting strong access-control and call-record requirements for security and compliance

Solutions From Sangoma

  • A proven first phase: An initial rollout of users successfully moved to Switchvox with zero disruption to phone-banking access, validating the migration approach ahead of a full rollout across the bank’s 100+ seats
  • Lower cost and lower risk: Phased purchases avoided a large upfront outlay and removed the danger of a single big-bang cutover
  • Less burden on the bankʼs IT team: Virtualizationremoved appliance maintenance and auto-provisioning cut setup time, letting the small IT team run voice across all sites with ease
  • A repeatable, multi-year path: With Switchvox in place, the bank has a clear roadmap to scale to new users or locations without re-architecting

The Results

Working with a Sangoma partner, the bank deployed Switchvox Virtual on its own infrastructure, replacing Mitel through a controlled, phased migration rather than a single risky cutover:

  • On-premises virtual deployment: Switchvox Virtual ran on the bank’s existing virtual environment, removing PBX appliances and keeping full local control
  • Phased, batch migration: Phones were purchased and cut over in small batches, spreading cost over time while Mitel stayed live until full transition
  • SIP trunk bridge: A SIP trunk linked Mitel and Switchvox, routing calls between platforms so users moved over without disruption
  • Preserved Ktrix IVR: The Ktrix phone-banking IVR stayed operational throughout, with SIP routing keeping service uninterrupted
  • Auto-provisioning and security controls: Phones auto-configured on connection, reducing setup time for the IT team, while admin multi-factor authentication, optional TLS/SRTP encryption, and call records supported the bank’s compliance needs

By moving to Switchvox Virtual, the bank replaced a risky rip-and-replace with a proven, phased to modernization.
