TORONTO, ONTARIO–(Marketwire – March 21, 2013) – Charged with providing information and support to the general public, the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) in the United Kingdom were looking to improve operational efficiency and reduce operational expenses by integrating innovative communications technology at the edge of the network. Without any expertise in this area, the CAB turned to Locall.Net, a UK-based provider of telecommunications networking services to develop a complete and modern telecommunications solution. Locall.Net’s first recommendation was to replace expensive ISDN links to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) with Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) trunks that would carry voice calls across the IP network.
Sangoma Technologies Corporation (TSX VENTURE:STC), a Canadian-based provider of hardware and software components that enable or enhance IP Communications Systems for both voice and data, supplied the Vega50 Gateway devices that Locall.net specified to enable the transition to SIP Trunking services while extending the service life and value of the existing core telephony infrastructure in place at two CAB contact centers.
“The flexibility and simple configuration of Sangoma Gateways virtually eliminates any concern regarding integration of legacy equipment with IP routers and wide-area SIP trunking services,” explained Sean Gallagher, managing director of Locall.net.
What began as a cost-saving exercise progressed into an opportunity to offer a more efficient service to clients and improve the work flow for CAB staff. This simple change in the transport technology at the edge of the network provided tremendous flexibility and cost savings for the two CABs and would not have been possible without the proven ease-of-configuration and reliability of Sangoma Gateway solutions.
“The Vega50s are proven to work out-of-the-box with less than 10 minutes of configuration time,” noted Gallagher. “This in itself gave us the confidence to eliminate the cost of pre-configuration and testing in our facility and ship the gateways directly to the CAB sites.”
A recent case study, “Upgrading Technology While Keeping Focus on Clients,” provides a detailed analysis of this implementation and is available for download from Sangoma.
